European rules references relating to electric vehicle charging
With reference to the European standard IEC / EN 61851-1 (charging stations for electric vehicles) and IEC / EN 62196-1 and 2 (connectors for charging electric vehicles), the columns produced by GIGIEFFE use the charging method “mode 3” which consists of connect the electric vehicle to the AC power supply through dedicated "type 2" connectors with additional contacts and the use of control systems for:
- verification of the continuity of the protective conductor between the vehicle and the network.
- Communication between the charging station and the vehicle via the PWM circuit for load management over 16A. If there is no PWM, the circuit works in a simplified way by checking the continuity of the protective conductor and limiting the load to 16A.
- Identification of the cable size (resistor coding) and subsequent check, through the PWM circuit, that the charging current is not higher than the maximum that can be drawn.
